June 19, 1865 marks a very important time in American history for African Americans. While the Emancipation Proclamation had been signed in 1863 (two years earlier) to free the enslaved Africans that were brought to America for free labor, there were some brothers and sisters that were still enslaved because they did not know they were free.

This marks an important time because we generally don't celebrate 1863 or Independence Day. Although, there were still some enslaved Africans even after this time, June 19, 1865 marks a time that is well is documented in history. And because America has never atoned or acknowledged the evils of enslaving us, WE CELEBRATE. It is something to celebrate.

There is something soul-less about a society that will profit from hundreds of years of free labor and never even apologize to the descendants of such a crime towards humanity. Although we have often fought a good fight and continue to fight for our humanity, freedom is essentially our birthright. WE ARE BORN FREE. FREE WILL is a gift from the Divine. For a whole collective to violate that and use religion to justify it speaks to the foundation of America. A sad case indeed and is the result of a society with a lack morality, compassion and humanism.

I created this t-shirt as a reminder that FREEDOM is our birthright, this day and everyday. When the slaveowners would make wanted posters for runaways this man in the image with the sack over his back is often what you would see. So, I wanted this image there. A runaway was someone who knew that they deserved to live a life FREE from hard labor, trauma and abuse. We salute you beloved ancestors that took that chance. I haven't created a t-shirt this meaningful in awhile so it's special to me and it's important that we embody it's words.
